Mark Andy Engages in Phoenix Challenge 2024

Mark Andy is proud to announce its participation in the upcoming Phoenix Challenge. The Phoenix Challenge Foundation is renowned for its dedication to fostering growth in the flexographic printing industry. Through hands-on experience and exposure to the industry, it supports both high school and college students in their educational and career journeys.

Mark Andy’s involvement in this year’s Phoenix Challenge underscores the company’s unwavering commitment to fostering the next generation of print industry professionals. James Mayenschien, Digital Service Technician at Mark Andy, will serve as a judge in the high school skills competition, taking place April 10 – 12 at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC. Mayenschien, a former participant in the Phoenix Challenge college competition, has since carved out a successful career path within Mark Andy. His journey from Challenge contender to full-time print technician at Mark Andy exemplifies the foundation’s mission of bridging the gap between education and industry.

“I’m thrilled to be back at the Phoenix Challenge as a judge,” Mayenschien expressed. “Participating in the college competition was a highlight of my college career. It not only gave me the opportunity to visit Mark Andy’s facility, but also fueled my enthusiasm for a career in the industry.”

The Phoenix Challenge Foundation is the premier non-profit organization dedicated to promoting flexographic printing education and training. Each year, they hold both a two-and-a-half-day high school skills competition and a year-long project-based college competition.

High school students competing in the Phoenix Challenge are assessed in five areas: operating a flexographic press, prepress, plate making, FTA Level One Certification, and Flexo math skills. Industry professionals judge the teams, and winners receive scholarships to further their education.

Bettylyn Krafft, Executive Director for The Phoenix Challenge Foundation, shared, “Mark Andy plays an integral role in the Phoenix Challenge as all of the high schools that participate learn on Mark Andy presses. The Phoenix Challenge provides students with invaluable hands-on experience, allowing them to showcase their skills and creativity while competing in real-world scenarios.”

By actively participating in events like these, Mark Andy reaffirms its commitment to supporting educational initiatives that drive innovation and excellence in the print industry.

“We are excited to once again participate in the Phoenix Challenge and to support young talent in the print industry,” said Trisha Smith, Global Marketing Manager at Mark Andy. “Our participation not only reflects our dedication to nurturing talent but also serves as an opportunity to give back to a community that has been instrumental in shaping the future of our industry.”
